Forget looking at the weather forecasts, you can simply tell if it's really windy in the UK by looking at the power grid and the price of energy. It is currently very windy in Scotland

@benjojo Tiny bit disappointed that we have still got 5GW of gas spinning, given NGESO's recent comments about expecting to run without any gas some time this year.

@wolf480pl @benjojo I'm on Octopus Agile so I do sometimes when they know the wholesale price is going negative. It's quite fun trying to turn everything on.

@wolf480pl In practice consumers do, if not rarely, but commercial users will still get some additional fees around transmission etc on their consumption in this period, the UK often has too much wind power available at any time, so I would bet (but don't have the numbers handy) that there is a lot more wind power around to use, but can't be used because of a lack of transmission capacity

@benjojo@benjojo.co.uk @wolf480pl@mstdn.io don't consumers also pay fees on transmission? Here there are often dips into negatives (we recently had a whole day with negative average price), but because of transmission costs it never gets into real world negatives.

@benjojo@benjojo.co.uk @wolf480pl@mstdn.io huh, here it's just another line item on the invoice0,10043 EUR/kWh for distribution and 0,00108053 EUR/kWh for transmission (with these rates regulated by government)

@benjojo I think @ignaloidas was trying to explore the differences between countries.
