So, do NOSTR relays store data indefinitely? Like, with a database(s)? Or, do they function more akin to exit nodes for messages?

@adiz@mtl.jinxian.casa no idea. I think it depends on what relay you use. I tried Nostr a while back, and while it's interesting on concept the whole thing can be convoluted and fairly unpolished, it's kinda like Goto where you need an client to access the network since you can't just go to the "site" yourself, not sure how to explain itAlso the crypto chat constantly drove me up a wall

@koimoa Yeah, I'm on it right now with a couple clients. It's actually working quite well and I don't have hardly any crypto chats. Probably because I'm following the right people, I guess. But, just trying to learn more about how it works. And, might be interested in hosting a NOSTR relay myself. It seems like the Fediverse is more decentralized in many respects---despite being a single instance with a single domain, if I follow 100 users I'm probably ingesting content from 60 different instances. Whereas, on NOSTR, nobody is beholden to any instance or domain but it appears that only about 7 relays are being utilized for publishing and receiving content.

@adiz@mtl.jinxian.casa what did you use to sign up for an account? Maybe that's where I fucked up lolAlso I do like that aspect about Nostr, federation seems to work way better than anything Activitypub does and it's actually defederated unlike Bluesky

@koimoa I don't remember how or where I signed up. I signed up some time ago and had my public + private keys saved, and just reutilize those to recently try out NOSTR again.I do find that the reliability of content federation/dissemination and discoverability on NOSTR is noticeably superior to that on the Fediverse. But, that's probably due to the more centralized and holistic network design vs. how decentralized and unconnected the Fediverse is (a series of feeds vs. a collection of islands).

@koimoa I'm using iris.to in the browser on desktop along with the nos.social iOS client running on MacOS. On my phone (Android) I'm using a client application called Amethyst. If I had an iPhone I'd be using the nos.social client application for iOS as well.

@adiz@mtl.jinxian.casa I had some success with Amethyst which I was told was the "best" client, I think it shows nearly all the features, I tried Snort and eh, too Twitter, and I tink I tried Ditto and that was fairly okay

@koimoa Yeah, Amethyst works well on my Android. What's your public key? I'll give you a follow.
