A v.good pal’s studying “Dante” and sending me pdf’s of stuff just in case I also want to dive into AV networking. It’s a thought, I suppose. Didn’t know of Dante until now (neither did he until he needed a decent quality D/A, apparently)

@rasur I had the pleasure of using it when doing my residency at an architectural firm. Pleasure as in goddamn why is this bloody thing not working. It’s Australian is why.

@lardmotel @rasur He sent me the notes pdf’s in case I wanted to make the switch (ha! Tech humour) and it just looks like normal TCP/IP networking but for AV traffic and my admittedly cursory scroll through the info makes me think it can be as badly configured as any other network, not sure being Aus is the issue there 😉

@lardmotel @rasur I was going to mention, the only time I've (knowingly) seen Dante in action is that one time where you couldn't get it going.I haven't had such issues with AVB, a competing protocol that PreSonus uses. The issue I have with it is that it eats my 2.3GHz Intel 8-core i9 CPU for 3-course lunch. Also not as widely used as Dante so I have painted myself into a bit of a corner on that.
