I have a strange #TTRPG etiquette question. In a system like the Suikoden or Daggerheart ones, players can take a risk and agree to attack at the same time. With mobile phones being a thing now, is it considered rude to be texting your tag-team partner to plan out what the special maneuvers will be?(Also, what was the first system to introduce that mechanic as a Rule?)

@trishalynn They could just talk to each other? Why have them stop paying attention to what's happening in the game right now by fiddling with a phone keyboard?

@yora The situation I was thinking of is if PC 1 is talking to the GM about what they want to do individually and PC 2 wants to do a tag-team move with PC 3, it might save time to have that discussion at the same time as when the PC 1 is resolving their actions. But if they do it out loud, it introduces a complication of there being crosstalk.1/

@trishalynn @yora There's definitionally crosstalk, even if none of it is side channel. Frankly, I think it's just a bad idea in the first place. Have one conversation at a time.If you're thinking about cooperating with someone else on a move, look over at them and say, "Hey, I'm thinking of pulling you in on this one. You cool with that?"Somebody else at the table might want to be in on that too, or they may want to interfere. You are literally engaged in the conversation of the game. Taking that conversation offline is essentially refusing to have it with the rest of the players. That's beyond rude. It's counterproductive.

@yora This could also be a handy thing for groups where the amount of time for gaming is limited or if they are on a countdown timer (like what can happen in Daggerheart).2/End
