This response admits that they're going after small platforms on purpose btw. This legislation basically rapes the fediverse in the UK because you have very little control over who sees your posts.If you owned an instance and wanted to hornypost occasionally, you would need to screen every instance from every one of your followers to make sure there are no kids anywhere and so on for each server they could potentially boost your post to. If you wanted to host an instance for other people, you would either need to verify the adulthood of each of your users (with photo ID, by the way) and make sure they don't hornypost, or you'd need to screen every instance for every outgoing follow your users make to ensure there's no hornyposting going on.Despite the response insisting compliance is easy, it'd be easier to just IP range block the entire country. This is why so many sites are doing this and just noping out entirely. This act is hostile to the development of small platforms and further drives centralization of the internet to the big players.I have registrations closed, so I don't need to screen users. But I don't have the capacity to screen the ~1600 accounts that follow me. I don't have the capacity to screen all of their followers in case they boost something. I basically have to stop posting some of the things I like and become a family friendly instance because some karen is blaming a suicide forum that she couldn't keep her kid from becoming an hero four years ago.

@VD15 Keep going with the petition. Don't know about you, but I didn't think you'd get anything else from your government as a response. The actual tiny amount of hope comes from the Parliament being forced to debate things. Not much is likely going to happen the first time around, which is why I said this will likely necessitate someone else making another petition similar to this. And another. And another. Force them to redebate this topic again and again, until they either give in, or they shutdown the government petition site. At which point, the public has another avenue of attack against the government, showing it for the authoritarian dictator it's trying to become.
