Is social media more about boosting articles, podcasts and video OR making short posts? I think it's the former and that's why "quote posts" should prioritize the link over the added commentary. Here where all that stuff will eventually be #ActivityPub native, this will only be more important. #SocialWeb

@wjmaggos For the record, I'm in the other camp.If what you want is a feed of links, we have RSS for that.

@KatS a feed of links is not all that I want but I want it more than I want short posts. and RSS doesn't have boosts. I follow a lot of podcasts but I'd rather see what's most popular with the people I follow. I want an algo of humans that I've curated for a variety of traits: intelligence, empathy, curiosity, interest in certain subjects. when they overlap, that's a much better sign of quality than one of them posting something. IMO

@wjmaggos@liberal.city who would write the posts being quoted in that scenario? To some extend i'd prefer a world where people are proactively shaping their narrative, over a world where all they have on their mind is framed by some upstream authority in xyz topic.I don't know, either way, i find it limmiting to assume that the tools we have, or those that are given, are the ultimate form of social media.

@setto anybody? I just think we all generally get more from longer stuff than a short post. having public say (instead of the power of money like on corporate platforms) over the bigger stuff going viral is more important for culture imo that smart quips.I think future tools will read out social graphs and surface what the people we follow like to make it all easier to consume and spread.
