#TTRPG #GenConYou know what? I was wrong. $16 for a seat at the table for a 3-hour to 4-hour gaming slot is hardly worth noticing. How about $128? I'm pained and I have words.https://grimtokens.garden/Thoughts/More+Gen+Con+Event+Madness

@lextenebris $16 made me flinch a lot this year, it seems like RPG events took a crazy jump in price over last year. But that right there, that's crazy town unless it includes catered dinner, a massage, and a signed hardback.

@starhawk Like I said in my original article, I would be uncomfortable charging $4 a slot, but I could work my way through it as a sort of baseline filter to make sure the people who sign up are really interested. I get it. It makes sense. I don't like it, but I get it.This is just celebrity GMing, and the bar for being "a celebrity" is really low. $154 per seat for a 4-hour slot, and it's entirely sold out. I'm an egotist and a hypercapitalist, and I'm not sure I can look myself in the face the same the next day in the morning mirror.

@lextenebris Well, the GM in question is getting it sold out at the orocides and the $154 one is also sold out. That shows folks are willing & able to pay that price.

@ericmpaq I can tell you didn't actually read the article because, while I am deeply hyper-capitalist and I totally understand the urge to grab that bag and capitalize on everything that you can—it still makes me deeply uncomfortable. Sure, the target demographic is older, established males who have disposable income and are willing to pay for somebody else with a minor amount of celebrity to play with them. I get it. I'm just uncomfortable with taking that much money in exchange for playing a game with them for four hours. And I'm kind of uncomfortable with the fact that there are people who would be willing to drop that much cash on an ephemeral experience when there are literal thousands of other games they could be playing with people who would appreciate it much more, and they could be using that money to actually support the games themselves rather than someone who doesn't need it at all. There are multiple levels of discomfort that I have with this, but I also acknowledge that you should go out there and grab your bag when you can. I'm never, ever going to try and stop someone from doing it, but I also don't have to feel good about it.

@lextenebris Are you the GM in question charging the $128-154 per seat?

@lextenebris Ok. Then the easiest way for you to remain comfortable is not to change those prices on your events.
