If you give ground when you are right it makes it seem like maybe you are wrong to people who haven't made up their minds, it vindicates people who are wrong and it makes you look weak. (This also kind of works when you are wrong... but *think* you are right... or if you are very good at lying. Which complicates it a bit.)Nonetheless, it's not possible to have one set of stances for one part of the public and a different one for another. Everyone will find out.

Some Democrats still keep trying to do this. It's OK to just make a few people mad about one idea that you stand up for that they don't really get. We all have to compromise when voting. But it's the worst feeling when you don't even know how much you are compromising. It's shifty and untrustworthy. Inauthentic. Find a page to be on and stay on it.

@emma IDK the polling shows that most people have a bunch of transphobic ideas but also don't care about the issue very much. I think seeing people waffle and dodge is very destructive because it makes it seems like it's "complicated" when it isn't: trans people exist and it's good to treat them with the same respect as everyone. Everyone is better off if you do that. Because a lot of people don't care very much they can... LEARN THINGS. You know if more people set a good example.

@MLE_online @emma The legislative decisions have been nothing short of barbaric. Cutting off care for minors is going to lead to so much harm and I really HOPE that it doesn't come to that in every state but it's as bad as the abortion decision in terms of the contempt is show for bodily autonomy and freedom. Then you have one of the most prominent democrats running around basically waffling. I'm not shocked people are mad. I'm mad.

@Linebyline @dalias @CoolerPseudonym I'm mad at them because they have been saying they know what's best to win but then they don't win and I don't even like them that much. It's the worst. I have to stretch and compromise to vote for these people but they still don't win? It's kind of depressing.

@futurebird @MLE_online @emma transitioning is a complicated issue. I have worked with a few dozen in the last 10 years, and have learned a lot. I think it is important to be very careful about the issue with minors. I teach at a circus school And being an outsider and bullied for being different are not uncommon for many who came from communities that were intolerant. ( still the majority in this country). The anti trans myth is that children are groomed to be gay or trans. I have never seen anyone “encouraged” to be trans, from either staff or students. It MIGHT happen somewhere but must be exceedingly rare.What IS possible though if for youth to admire and want to emulate someone without understanding their full motivation. Some of the circus artists I know are brilliant performers and extremely skilled and very attractive. It is inportant for youth to come to a realization that they want to transition because of who they are and not to be like someone else.

@dalias @futurebird My moral compass says anyone willing to support, or tries to justify thru gaslighting, a genocide does not deserve my vote. There is no nuance, no compromise. Who wants to exercise power that is dependent on the slaughter of thousands of women and children?If I "compromise" on this issue, what's next? Toss trans people under the bus so the party gains more seats? Human rights are nonnegotiable as they are the foundation for all other policy.
