I tried clicking it and it was just like "how can one person possibly have so many meetings about network cable in one week?" and, fair.

@ricci this time we are trying to find a 400G-FR4 transceiver that fits in an OSFP CX7 without exceeding the transceiver power budget… which seems to be different depending on which vendor’s server we’re using, but no one knows what it actually is

@ricci the highlight of these meetings has been:optics vendor: we have a transceiver that would work but it has a flat heat sink instead of a riding heat sink so it won’t physically fit.me: so how does that help us?vendor: well, do you have a machine shop?me: I really don’t like where this is going.vendor: we have a machine shop, and we could use a milling machine to take off the heat sink and maybe that would work?me: please tell me this is an elaborate joke…

@dan oh yeah, that's fun shit, when a vendor has certified a specific thing when you know the hardware is capable of more

@dan in one of our initial batches of Emulab machines, we could not get the NICs we wanted with a half-height slot cover. So, we bent them all ourselves.
