@syndicate @radiofreefedi @mixtape afaik there's no great (Android) app for streaming radio. I think it's why this medium hasn't ever taken off.

@setto @radiofreefedi @mixtape RadiOMG for SomaFM by @dgmltn is great but it's locked to that station. I don't need it to look that good but everything else I've seen is on the other end of the spectrum. A bad experience that pushes the upgrade to ad free hard. Or it doesn't focus on streaming radio. IDK. I'm open to suggestions. Basically the app ecosystem is not as well developed as it is for podcatchers AFAICT.

@wjmaggos@liberal.city I'm a heavy VLC user for radio stations, but since i started using navidrome.org i listen to radio stations through the apps for that. I'm not an app developer, but in my smol opionion, I think what applies here applies to pretty much everything FOSS: education supersedes user "friendliness". Elevating our peers is far more sustainable and empowering than dumbing down our apps.@radiofreefedi@musician.social @mixtape@nham.co.uk @dgmltn@androiddev.social

@setto @dgmltn @radiofreefedi @mixtape I'm not a developer either but imo we have to do both. I guess my thought is that there must not be enough interest in this medium because it isn't talked about or developed for like podcasting.I'd expect to have lots of things be standard by now. Station directories that apps could pull from, more station info like DJs and schedules, chat rooms, links to song/artist pages.[sorry to be complaining and rambling]

@dgmltn @setto not sure how they do it but I think #pocketcasts handles the search very well. podcasts not radio stations, but you can find anything. It's such a great app overall.
