Section 12 Terrorism Act 2000 regarding the offence of supporting a proscribed organisation is one of most authoritarian laws I’ve ever seen. Note 1A, as added in 2019:“A person commits an offence if the person—(a) expresses an opinion or belief that is supportive of a proscribed organisation, and(b) in doing so is reckless as to whether a person to whom the expression is directed will be encouraged to support a proscribed organisation” #UKpol

@Nickiquote Yep. I protested about that back when it was still a Bill. One of the first things that politicised me (along with the ban on protesting during the visit of Jiang Zemin the same year). My biggest concern then was the power it gave the Home Secretary to designate *literally any group of people* as a Terrorist Organisation, via secondary legislation, and that 'being supportive' included attending any kind of event that a member of the proscribed organisation was speaking at, even if you went there to protest against them. And that this could be used to prosecute anyone as a terrorist if they happened to be in the vicinity of a protest or similar event. And, well, look where we are now.

@RolloTreadway @Nickiquote is this retroactive? Like if they change their minds about what groups are proscribed?
