why doesn't the existence of sex or gender segregated sports constitute unlawful discrimination? sports could legitimately be segregated by weight, musculature, skill, lots of characteristics rationally related to competition on like terms.but sex and gender are noisy proxies for any of this, and constitute categories discrimination by which demands elevated scrutiny under all circumstances.

@interfluidity you can of course look to boxing or wresting for weight classes, but the panoply of classifications in disability sports is the best example of the kind of complex classification systems that *already exist* in organized athletics. Obviously gender is a classifier there as well, but there are tons of ways to slice it. Sadly, something like this requires thoughtfulness and openness, both of which seem to be in short supply these days. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Para-athletics_classification
