@dajb @ravi @prav @signalapp Entire world depending on a single organization to talk to each other is not very sustainable in the long term. Prav is one specific choice in #XMPP options - there are other apps and services using same protocol which you can use - and still talk to prav users. For example Monocles Chat don't have these two anti features, but adds a bit more steps to join - choose a server, username and password. So you can decide which of thoese trade offs suits better for you.

@martin I can attest to the effectiveness of that. It took me several years to get more than my 3 closest friends on board, but phone number signup with #Quicksy and #Prav helped me start a 7-person family group last year. Then, a two-week family trip was all it took to get 8 more people onto #XMPP, after which my father on his own got half a dozen of his friends to sign up as wel! So I can now see things picking up steam as the network effect kicks in 🎉️@dajb @praveen @ravi @prav @signalapp

@martin also worth noting that the initial "several years" was because I had to guide people through picking a server and setting up their accounts, makinhg sure they choose an option where they could reset their passwords, etc. and XMPP apps weren't in a great state back then. Onboarding has become so much simpler now that we have phone number login (and the people who don't want to do that can always pick another server...or now even be invited to one!)@dajb @praveen @ravi @prav @signalapp
