I'm still slow in writing elisp, but I'm definitely getting better. I'm kinda proud of my progress, and I feel more "brave" to write small functions to do exactly what I want. I think #Emacs hugely benefit from a better onboarding and vanilla theme, but after three years of dealing with it, now it feels like home 🤓

@Mehrad I agree, we need something like a wizard built in.

@tusharhero @Mehrad There are some nice minimal #emacs configurations like this one. It's better than the default but isn't overwhelming in what it does.https://github.com/jamescherti/minimal-emacs.dBut a newbie doesn't know to go look for one.

@Zenie @Mehrad Emacs should really teach the newbie everything they need to know IMO.There shouldn't be a need to research beforehand. Which is which why Ithink we need a configuration wizard of sorts.

@Zenie I agree with @tusharhero that a wizard can be quite helpful, although I think the UI if the vanilla #Emacs is hideous. The Emacs website has an acceptable design and it actually is somewhat attractive, but upon installation of Emacs, I felt like being smacked in the face. We need some graphical designers imho.I personally tried to make my own config very readable and very beginner-friendly (link below) with README and help and comments and pictures and etc.:https://codeberg.org/mehrad/.emacs.d

@Mehrad @Zenie > although I think the UI if the vanilla #Emacs is hideousI wouldn't call it "hideous", I actually like it. But that is maybebecause I just love Emacs.

@tusharheroOpinions are of course different ;) but one of the parts that really is an eyesore for me is the vanilla logo. Attached is the comparison of what I personally like[1] and the vanilla Emacs[2].Btw, considering that you like the design of vanilla Emacs, you might find this thread interesting 🤓 :https://web.archive.org/web/20110726005535/http://www.ee.ryerson.ca:8080/~elf/emacs/logo/index.html[1] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:EmacsIcon.svg[2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Emacs-logo.svg@Zenie #Emacs #EmacsLogo
