       Big NOPE here. "devices collect data to benefit users"No, any benefit to the user is a side effect. Those devices are for data harvesting. The real money from those services is made by selling that data. "Should you be worried about smart devices collecting personal data?"YES. BIG YES. Any benefit to end user can be gotten without collecting and storing your data. They could read/write a local file.
