@MelissaBearTrix Hmm. I'm a synth nerd, though I first learnt on an electronic organ and later an accordion. Don't know how that genders me... But then one of the most famous synth person (Wendy Carlos) is trans...

@static @MelissaBearTrix I had this amazeballs music teacher at highschool, who introduced us to Pictures at an Exhibition in four steps:The original piano composition by Modest Moussorgsky. The orchestration by Maurice Ravel. The prog rock rendition by Emerson Lake and Palmer. And the synth version by Isao Tomita. Great teachers, sadly, don't always make great musicians out of all their students. I got as far as The Promenade, but couldn't get much beyond that on Moussorgsky's work... 😁

@PetraPanda @MelissaBearTrix I had a couple of goes at it, myself. Used to bring my own electronic music things to music class, for instance, and purchased my first synth (a sampler) after I'd been working for less than a year. But stuff was expensive and/or hard to get. And things were in huge flux for those years, too, and I let myself stagnate after I stopped playing live (church band for decades). It was only a few years ago I got into it all again, and now have a range modern hardware.I still wish I had taken the music elective in high school, though.

@static @MelissaBearTrix I grew up in the era of Moog and those truck sized synth set ups. But the sounds they were generating... 😲

@PetraPanda @MelissaBearTrix Oh yeah... It's crazy what you can make them do. But modern Moogs are hella expensive (you're buying the brand plate,..). Still, I have an ARP2600 clone on my wishlist at the moment... *I follow a couple of synth YouTubers who do modular. And in the Discord of one of them. And I have a deep love for Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene. * lemme know if you'd like to know what I have at the moment... :)

@PetraPanda @MelissaBearTrix Oi... I'm not quite old enough to have Oxygene on vinyl, but I am old enough to have been born already when it did!

@static @MelissaBearTrix I don't know what these devices are anymore. I have friends who produce music, others who mix sets, but I have become one who pays attention to what music does to me, and I dance ... often by myself, under the sceptical gaze of my cat, and when it's warm enough, under the stars at a doof somewhere in the Australian bush.

@PetraPanda @MelissaBearTrix I may not dance as much as I wished I did, but I am very aware of what music does for me! Although it's an ever changing list, I do have a range that serve me as dopamine and serotonin regulation. Would like to get into making mix sets. Need more copious free time to do so... Something I don't currently have.
