A Mexican-American friend who lives here on a Green Card and is the mother of five US citizens, including a US Army Vet and an LAPD officer, just collapsed into my arms crying, saying that she no longer drives on the freeway because she's afraid of being stopped by ICE and kidnapped.

@BendingUnit @pluralistic @ycwang ICE doesn't give a damn about "permanent residency". If you are a person of color and not a right-winger, they consider you an "anchor baby" worthy of being snatched and deported in order to "Make America White Again".

@AnthonyJK @BendingUnit @pluralistic @ycwang Permanent Residency isn't permanent anymore. One thing they've been doing for years (since the late 90's by the state department I believe, but really ramped up in the last decade with DHS) is to unilaterally take away permanent residency from people if they want to exile you, and will use any pretense they can find. Caught smoking pot by the cops? Even if the judge dismissed the case, if it shows up on your record DHS will revoke your permanent residency and "deport" you without any way to fight it.

@ycwang Because ICE is snatching people and not giving them trials or checking their papers. They're also deporting US citizens.

@nonlinear @AnthonyJK @BendingUnit @pluralistic @ycwang students have had visa status revoked for parking or traffic violations (even later dropped ones), I don't see how they won;t try and use that for permanent residents too. And if so, next wield it against naturalized citizens. There is no depth this depravity will not sink to.
