#Obama about what has changed in America, not just in the White House.Maybe spineless is the right word.Spineless for the politicians who should know better. And naive for the population that has enjoyed their comfort for decades and has apparently not received enough historical education to realise how quickly things can change for them and their children.https://youtube.com/shorts/Vac2xRQwjDQ?si=GndL24xQqqxkxnTy #USA #America #WhiteHouse #Spineless

And he was good for the economy, helped people who needed healthcare, and, if I remember correctly, his administration had zero indictments. There have been Presidents who did not reach that level.@monarchist

@paulschoe He was terrible for the economy. Costs shot up with inflation.Healthcare we cannot afford. His administration had a number of scandals. But the biggest thing he failed on was Georgia, setting up the Ukraine war.

"Health Care we cannot afford."To hear that from an American is one of the most laughable things I have heard this month. @monarchist

@paulschoe Look at the American budget: 3/4 of it goes to entitlements. We cannot afford that. It maps to the debt. We do not want that debt.

It is a matter of:1) priorities2) managementOf Western wealthy countries, the USA has by far the highest costs per capita and the lowest outcome on almost every metric. Americans have shorter life spans, a higher number of deaths during childbirth, and the list of failures goes on and on.And instead of saying: let's deal with that, you say, contrary to all those other countries, "we can't afford health care.Laughable is the only reply I have for that. Sorry.@monarchist

@paulschoe No country can afford these things. Zero cost results in infinite demand. This is why the NHS and Canada Health are in trouble too.

"No country can afford health care."That can only be said by a person who says "the #USA can not afford health care".Luckily for hundreds of millions of people, their governments disagree.See this abstract, which had as its goal: 'Compare health system performance in 10 countries, including the United States, to glean insights for U.S. improvement.'https://www.commonwealthfund.org/publications/fund-reports/2024/sep/mirror-mirror-2024@monarchist #HealthCare

Is that normal for your discussions? To just state fantasies as facts? Finally accepting that there are countries where citizens do get more affordable health care than in USA, and with better results, you take another non-existent rabbit from your hat and come up with the lie that 'they are all in debt' and could never afford them?In my own country, the debt-to-GDP ratio is 43.5%. In the USA, it is over 120%.Stop fantasising.@monarchist

@paulschoe As far as why American health care is so expensive, both of us know it: the emergency rooms are crammed with indigent and illegals.Since the 1970s they have received free care, and as a result, their numbers have expanded.

@paulschoe According to the trusty internet(tm), the population of the Netherlands is somewhere around 18mn.https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/netherlands/That makes it about like one US state. It's also 75% Dutch, which makes things much easier. In theory, it should be easier to provide for such a small number of people in a concentrated area.

After I show you that we have a debt-to-GDP ratio of 44%, less than half of USA's, you continue the lie that ' Every country with socialised medicine is in debt,' and that that debt is caused by their health care system. It is simply not true, you now know it but keep repeating it.So, at the end of this conversation, when reading your posts, the same picture comes to mind as after your first post. I hope one day, the USA will also see it can afford health care for its people.@monarchist

@paulschoe You seem to be talking around the issue. These levels of debt are healthy for neither country, and now the debt is piling up, so they will go. At that point, debt spending ends and so does the "free" (mediocre) health care.I live in a healthcare city, and we have people from all over the world coming in fleeing the "free" healthcare that has failed them.

Most economists believe that a debt-to-GDP ratio below 50% is a very healthy one, so I have no idea why you state: 'These levels of debt are healthy for neither country'.In the meantime, the citizens of Europe will continue to enjoy their healthcare, as we believe that affordable health and education are two of the most important items that a government can provide for its citizens.@monarchist

@paulschoe Most economists got it wrong last time, too.In the meantime, as debt rises, currency loses value.

Luckily, our debt has remained stable for the last decade, demonstrating that affordable healthcare and education are achievable without raising debt. The question is more whether Administrations are focused on what is best for their citizens or have other objectives. But you just keep your hands in front of your eyes so you don't have to see that there are hundreds of millions of people better off than many in the USA, and they live longer too.@monarchist

@paulschoe I don't think it makes sense to compare the USA to other countries, especially given our demographics and how large the place is. It still blows me away how there's just... lots of it. And it is highly varied between regions (!).
