@xerz more casual users like myself see it that way, Wayland still has rough edges that will obviously be ironed out with time. but still sticking with x because it's what i know and everyone has been designing for that hacked together mess for years

We have an increasing number of questions from our Linux community about using Wayland. Our take is that Wayland remains an experimental, evolving idea. It is still missing basic functionality that KiCad users have come to expect. We hope that it continues to improve. But for now, if you need to use KiCad on Linux, we recommend installing X11.https://www.kicad.org/blog/2025/06/KiCad-and-Wayland-Support/

@kicad wtf?! X11 is barely on life support. All major distributions switched to Wayland as default *years* ago. Ubuntu will remove X11 in 25.10.

@claudiusAs far as I know Wayland doesn't support any other key map other than qwerty so it's basically useless for most of the world.@kicad

@bohwaz @claudius @kicad (This is mostly a humorous post since I found that untrue factoid funny, I don't really want to join any argument right now, but still wanted to point it out directly to say it isn't true)

@claudius That is why we are raising this issue. We had hoped that the missing functionality would be addressed prior to major distributions removing X11 but as this has not happened, it is incumbent upon us to let our community know the current state and how we are working to address it.
