I enabled sshd on windows and now my computer won't stay asleep. I often get asked "well why don't you just try X?" Because trying fucking anything on windows will break something half the time in a way that will take days to figure out how to repair

I'm so with you on this. People who expect Windows to work are NGMI.

@professionalbigot69 I'm wondering if installing sshd somehow automatically enabled wake on LAN, though that doesn't solve the mystery that nothing should be pinging it right now I've never seen this happen on any machine with Linux. Linux is respectful enough to not mess with my fucking BIOS settings

       > Linux is respectful enough to not mess with my fucking BIOS settingsI have always found it insane that Windows can do things to BIOS (okay, "UEFI"). They scream about boot security and then the OS just turns on "fast boot" or chooses to go into setup on next boot, etc.

@vic @professionalbigot69 windows can and will replace your entire bios with an updated version. I had to see it with my own eyes to believe it.

@vic @RustyCrab @professionalbigot69 Linux can the same, nobody just did it in an automated way. You can set what to boot next with efibootmgr and mokutil has the ability to wipe custom keys and enable/disable secureboot.

so basically most of the supposed benefit of "secure boot" (preventing tampering of the machine before OS init stage) has been nullified but we still have to deal with it, cool
