Now the new operator has to use the money it will no longer pay in dividends to improve train service. One of the painful effects of privatization was that your ticket was always for a specific train run by a specific company. If all the trains are from the same company, there is no need for that to be so.

       @rms There is a problem. The privatised companies were all subsided by the government, yet still failed. Now the profits will be used to remove the subsidy.
