One thing I notice when reading about people's problems #switching to #linuxaudio is that their attempts/workflows often seem quite complex. To avoid setbacks and frustration, my suggestion would be to start simple and accept limitations in the beginning, get to know the system better, and then aim for more complex setups as your know-how grows.

@amadeus Mhh, well… people have probably put quite some effort in establishing thir workflow and found this a hard thing to do, so I find it understandable if they don't want to step back from it.I really wish Pipewire would have started to rise earlier, so that as of today it was there where it should be. Because actually when really doing its thing, it is like on OSX but better.Side remark: I encountered some folks saying the Ardour (or Mixbus) mixer was overly complicated and they didn't understand the routing. I think these are users who never have worked with larger mixing consoles outside their computer, because if you have, you find the Ardour mixer quite convenient. The not-so-nice thing is that they attribute their lack of knowledge to the Ardour mixer being overly complicated. But luckily, today there's Bitwig and Reaper, too. 😜

@nielso I also find #pipewire to be better than #coreaudio on macOS.Many of the things I used to do on macOS with some helper apps, I now do out of the box on #linux. And yes, in many of the "polished" apps that are used on Windows or macOS, I think a lot of the complexity (but also flexibility) is probably kept away from the users, which may lead to small successes faster, but doesn't necessarily promote the underlying understanding of what's actually going on, if that makes any sense.

PipeWire is quite new.No Linux distro shipped it by default before April 2021.PulseAudio, the predecessor of PipeWire. was a disaster, and made many musicians refused to use Linux.@amadeus @nielso

@wzqtparor @amadeus PulseAudio was a desaster for pro audio use, yes. But this is only 50% of the story, because the other audio system called Jack was an audio system only for pro audio use and it made Windows and Mac users envious for its built-in patchbay allowing to wire together different applications.Pipewire is the successor of both actually. The only trick that needs to be hammered into pro audio users' brains is that they need to switch the audio interface they're using to the "pro audio" profile in Pipewire.Well, that is supposed to be the only trick. Unfortunately both my main audio interfaces do not yet work with Pipewire. (RME Digi5296 and Yamaha 01v96i via USB.)Plus, it helps to use Pulse Audio Volume Control (pavucontrol) still, as it can be used to set up certain things with Pipewire.
