People have been scaring each other silly with the tale of "The Serbian Dancing Woman" This video covers the spooky trend on tiktok. As far as formats for scary videos this one is easy, you just need to a woman who can play the part and a dark city street and your phone. Post the video with a title like "she almost got me!"But is there some older story this is playing off of? It's obviously at least adjacent to the fear of witches. How "Serbian" is it even? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4F6RwiD3MTM

@futurebird Seems an awful lot like the Japanese urban legends of kuchisake-onna, a vengeful spirit of a mutilated woman. From an anthropological folklore perspective, both stories fit loads of common folklore signifiers: - inhabits liminal nighttime hours - appears human but on closer inspection is inhuman - haunting caused by a spurned woman - misfortune or danger if encountered Tiktok is just another avenue for folklore to bloom

@futurebird Now I'm tempted to find a dress and go out dancing in the streets to terrorise the neighbourhood. Great way to reclaim the streets, and it's interesting that people find one older woman so frightening....
