@stefano Fuck yeah! I remember a long long time ago attending a conference in Bologna with a colleague who was a native speaker b/c his parents were from Italy. We were eating at various restaurants that tourist (or other conference attendees) would go to. One had its menu on a wall mounted chalk board.Had by far the best Italian food I ever had. Just wish I was either speaking Italian or that I was a better cook ;)

@RecoveredExpert š Yes, those restaurants with the menus written with the chalk are great. Unfortunately, many of them are disappearing (you know..sushi, poke, etc are all around now) but there are still some of them š

@stefano I never got the sushi thing. Itās one of the very few things that still puzzles me to this day. Itās not just that I donāt like it. I āgetā why people like other stuff I donāt like and vice versa. Whatever, I donāt have to understand everything ;-)Too bad I donāt understand nor speak any Italian to go to those restaurants that still offer good local food.Learning wonāt work. My brain seems to be totally incompatible with romance languages for some reason.

@RecoveredExpert sushi is ok, as many other foods. I just don't get the "hey, there's this 'new' cool food, we all need to convert to it!"As for local restaurants, you don't need to learn Italian. Just get in and say "cucina vera locale". Italians are proud of their food, so they'll do their best to serve you the best food they can š

@stefano Iām open to most western food. My only rules: No insects, nothing with a hard shell[1] and it must not be able to ālookā at me.[1] One exception: mussels, both, italian and french variants. Last time I had good mussels was in 2021, when we spent a bit more than a week in a friends āvacation homeā in the wider Venetia area, just before tourist season started.

@RecoveredExpert @stefano But... hard shells are literally evolved to guard the tastiest of insides.Exoskeletons are a different matter.
