Is it wrong for me to keep an umbrella in my bag? The last time I kept one in my bag NY had the longest drought in recent memory. It ended when I removed the umbrella. I bought a nice ultralight camping umbrella six years ago and it has never been wet once. In fact the only times I have managed to use an umbrella are on days when I leave during a deluge. In my hands the umbrella is a rain ward.As spring sets in I’m thinking about carrying one again daily. But is it morally OK?

@futurebird I lived in Wales long enough to carry an umbrella wherever I go. Moral qualms are beyond me at this point 😂

@futurebird We should hang out with you. My husband in particular has broken several major droughts by going camping.

@futurebird Oh that's not why the drought happened. We found a haunted paper mache dog in our building's basement and decided to put it out with the halloween decorations thinking "the rain will wreck it and then we'll throw it out". We put it out like the day after it rained. It next rained on the day we threw it in the trash, weeks later.

@futurebird umbrellas are indeed powerful talismans, but that doesn't mean you should leave them behind, it's important to follow the ancient rituals even if the reason behind the results are unclear.

@futurebird seems like wise preparation to me. For many years I always had one of those roll-up rain ponchos in my backpack. Eventually I had to replace it with a nice rain jacket I bought in Seattle. Unfortunately I no longer have the jacket, so today my rain "gear" is really just an extra long-sleeved shirt, but where I live now that's enough for the summer.

@futurebird Umbrellas are one of the most powerful magics known to us. It might be morally wrong for you to carry one and plunge NYC into drought but fortunately the magic is balanced by other umbrella wielders' power. Are there known umbrella wielders of your stature who are failing to wield umbrellas? If so, they're providing a counterbalance to you. ... However, it sounds like your umbrella resonance is especially high, so wield your power wisely!

@futurebird NYC was the only city I've lived in where if you do forget an umbrella the instant it starts raining there are fifty people trying to sell you the flimsiest piece of crap umbrella you've ever seen.Projectile umbrellas are why I carry a hat instead...

@futurebird Nay, dear futurebird! It is evident in these great celestial omens that you have been choseneth by the gods to sacrifice the assurance of protection from the elements which others are afforded, so that in your brave (though reluctant (and hydrophobic)) exposure and unpreparedness, your vulnerability, and your occasional, random, public hair-and-shoe-all-saturating baptismal, this parched earth's want for vital drink might be thus divinely assuaged...eth. 🙏

@futurebird be careful with that stuff.I had similar innocent thoughts, and started carrying a umbrella (the cane kind, not foldable) during bad weather times. Then it happened.I got addicted to carrying it and using it as a walking cane. Can't go on a walk without it now, which - i can tell you - earns you a *lot* of weird looks in the summer.(I'm almost sure it's a way of stimming, also i don't mind the looks, love walking with it, so, very benevolent addiction :) )

@futurebird Which is more moral: you carrying an umbrella or your head getting wet?
