       Been seeing a lot of takes on China lately that totally ignore the history of its predecessor states’ imperialism going back to roughly 200 BCE.Of course campists eat up anything implying or saying “China isn’t imperialist like the West.” Okay, that’s true, in the sense that they have been doing it for *much* longer.1/2

       Foreign policy for all major dynasties and kingdoms since the Han Dynasty didn’t have a category of “allies” or “peer nations,” just “tributaries,” “enemies,” and “too far away to care about.”That seems pretty imperialist to me!2/2
