       The gutting of American science funding isn’t a big enough story in our news and it should be. It significantly reduces American innovation and economic competitiveness in the near-term and long-term and it isn’t even being done efficiently, if that were in fact the goal.I mean I’m sure it’s a victim of the “flood the zone” strategy, but this is going to hurt people in big ways.This is bad. Trump cuts roil National Science Foundation, alarming researchers:https://www.npr.org/2025/05/02/nx-s1-5371720/national-science-foundation-budget-grant-cuts-turmoil

       I’d guess too many Americans have no clue about scientific research, how it’s done, who does it, who funds it, and why it’s critical to your actual life. This is especially true of academic research. They have no idea what STEM professors at Research-1 universities do, for example. Maybe everyone doesn’t need to know that exactly but giving people a vague idea would be great.Couldn’t anyone in cable news care about this instead of “Biden’s old?”Everyone is going to find out the hard way.

       @TonyStark to give an example: multifunction labs.Scientific equipment is expensive so labs and lab equipment pull double or triple duty.Shut a research lab down and you just stopped a specialty drug manufacturing site. Or the lab isn't manufacturing materials for another lab or facility.The cascade will be wide and not uniform. Some places will be hit hard.

       @RevXenoFact I went into engineering to make the world a better place.The trashing of science and expertise is just a gut punch.There’s nothing good or beneficial about this.

       @TonyStark it's just nihilism.  That's it.

       @TonyStark That's a thing I worry about, because it's going to impact research done just about anywhere on Earth, too...

       @DEWLine That, too.None of this is good and I have nothing but scorn for people who voted for it. Hurt yourselves, okay. Everyone else, not so much.

       @TonyStark @DEWLine It is not only NSF, but also NASA, NIH, NOAA, USGS, and Department of Energy science budgets. National Labs, too.
