I am throwing Pica in the trash. I'm trying to record an audio version of the story and Princess Never Shuts Up keeps waiting until I'm 2/3s done to butt in and THAT means I'll need to do multiple takes and edit the audio ... defeating the purpose of it just being a quick exercise. (I will not really put her in the trash. But I may give her a dozen head kisses which she HATES and deserves. )I'm going to the library. This sucks.

@futurebird my Bean will start yelling incessantly whenever I take a phone call. Or start a meeting at work. And then when I finish he keeps on yelling and yelling til I either shoo him away gently or toss literally anything towards his general direction (gently ofc).I wish smothering him with too much affection worked but alas, he just purrs a storm up because it means he won lol

@futurebird I don’t have pets, but ambient noise was always an issue. The closed closet was my friend.

OK I have figured it out. It's when I say the word "cat" that she comes over and starts piping up. Hence, like a youTuber who speaks of "unaliving" and "red sauce" I must use some other phrases for the words Her Majesty loves best: I'm going with "house gremlin" for "cat" and "eatables" for "food."

I have to love Pica, if I were six pounds and lived with giants IDK if I'd have the nerve to be as much of a little pest as she is. We can all take inspiration from Pica I suppose.

@futurebird lol. Hope you are able to continue with interruption elsewhere. I grew up with chihuahuas and now have cats, so my default expectation is that the tiny ones have outsized personalities. 😸

@futurebird Got a similar house gremlin. She's convinced she can talk English with the mastery of someone who only knows a single syllable.

@futurebird When I had a studio in use at home, it was on the top floor, and i put a screen door on the stairs _plus_ all the other sound isolation, and it was very necessary because George would want to do this:#cat #OrangeCat

@futurebird Say "sustenance" for food. Your cat will never figure that one out. Mwahahaha."House gremlin" is perfect for cat though.

@futurebird that’ll work for a while, then she’ll figure it out - I had to come up with a series of euphemisms for the vet back when Mo was really sick fora year, as she kept learning them

@futurebird With Pippin we used to have to say “swimming food” for fish!
