The year I was born an average new car cost $2650. A dozen eggs cost .53. It cost $1.00 to go to a movie. The Dow Jones industrial average was 916. Minimum wage was 1.25 and a decent house cost 20k.

@Phil I don’t know how anyone lives at this point. I do moderately well, but what i have materially is a pittance compared to my blue collar father. He retired at the age I am now, and I’m going to have to work until I drop.

@Kevmo when I started out, I worked 2 full time jobs during the week and a part time job on the weekend. I lived in squaller and saved every penny I could. Once I had a chunk of cash, I quit the weekend job and dropped to 25 hours a week on the second one and did that another 2 years. Once Married we lived well below our means and never took on debt. We saved alot. Even now we save 36% of our income. So we have our retirement covered and should be able to leave most of the principal to the kids
