Joshi attacks the naval battle on Aaj Tak, saying that the loss of life was staggering, without naming a figure, all for distracting the PLA from the main front in Yunnan.

@ww3real , he's right to say it. The whole "amass a gigantic force and deploy/destroy it all at once" seemed like something a 14 year old would do in a RTS game.

@Truckasauruslex @ww3real So, the way I think of it is that it's like the air war in WW2, in the sense that both sides overinvested in it but then getting the Nazis to waste resources on air battles was a legit achievement for the RAF even if the strategic bombings were kinda useless. The actual strategic victory for the death fleet was entirely pre-battle - it gave NATO full control of the Atlantic, and if there had been a 2034-style resistance in the US, there would be a liberation landing.

@Alon @ww3real , the tying up resources side is interesting, because I'm still not convinced in the Indian economic miracle, and I would still think China and USA have the deeper productive forces than India/NATO. Whereas WWII Germany was always on the losing side of that battle. But the WWII air war took 5 years! Here, they just let off all the fireworks at once.

@Truckasauruslex @ww3real Yeah, but at sea, force concentration is more important, so the IJN put all of its eggs in the Leyte Gulf basket.

@Truckasauruslex @ww3real Modern carrier battle groups have supply ships - in the USN it's usually one dry cargo supply ship and one oiler per strike group. The WW2 destroyers were tiny by modern standards - around 1,600 t for the escorts, 2,200 for the regular destroyers, vs. 9,000 for the Arleigh Burke class - and were not designed to be able to operate independently, hence the ice cream tender.
