Ok, so thinking aloud time: Fascism, focussing on "hating others" (the outgroup) is inefficient. Emotions are important to get the complete picture, but i want to ignore emotions for a bit here. Because emotions would just make facism worse, and i want to focus on the efficiency part. So i heard humans most important trait was tool use. I want to dispute that, i think collaboration (beyond animal packs) is the greatest trait we have. Helping each other beyond a short lived action is actually helpful, like dividing work for example. So when fascism ostracises an outgroup, it destroys the efficiency humans can achieve. There's unnecessary struggle, outgroup forced to push back, ingroup people that want collaboration push back, just a lot of struggle that is completely unnecessary. So i say fascism is not just an offence to human rights and such, but an inefficient way to shape human society, beyond all humanitarian or empathetic concerns.

@admitsWrongIfProven @light i certainly agree, but the counterclaim would be that sufficiently demonizing a minority outgroup unlocks a kind and quality of coordination (i think a horrible, ugly kind and quality) worth the cost in conflict and the sacrifice of potential collaborators.

@interfluidity @light Like, working extra hard because of hate? Sustainability comes to mind. Working extra hard for hate does not supply any extra energy, so burnout is looming just like in basic capitalism. And besides, the idea is that spreading work helps, so if some few work harder, that's not acutally better.

@interfluidityI think a fascist would say that some people are incapable of co-operating, through disability, or race if they are also a racist.@admitsWrongIfProven

@admitsWrongIfProven @light not working extra hard because of hate. falling into line, obeying the leader unconditionally, because of love of ones community in the face of an insidious enemy that existentially threatens it.see https://drafts.interfluidity.com/2023/03/05/what-is-fascism/index.html

@interfluidity @light Short lived productivity... i shit in my hand and i have more. What i always have seen as the core of fascism is the forced distinction between the ingroup and the outgroup. The artificial distinction, the separation where no separation should or must be.

@admitsWrongIfProven @light right. but also the recasting of the outgroup into an enemy or burden, a threat whose defeat or elimination would finally make the ingroup great again.
