       A family member’s Surface laptop went dark the other day. It seems to be Windows-related. I offered to “fix” it for them by installing Ubuntu. I’m thinking of going with Gnome since Unity is too different from the Windows UI, so they’re not completely disoriented.        @ilyess@mastodon.online I also suggest Mint with Cinnamon. Mint is based off Ubuntu but they fix the many bugs Ubuntu has. I put it on my elderly aunt's laptop once (after she bacame a ransomware victim using windows and could no longer boot windows). The only differences compared to using windows was:- fonts not shit, much easier to read text- epsom printer much easier to set up- no more ransomware attacks- libreoffce not shitty word and thunderbid not shitty outlook
