We’re delaying opening pre-orders for Framework Laptop 12 in the US. We’re still opening orders for the other countries we ship to tomorrow (April 9th), now at 10am PT.We’re incrementally making adjustments for US customers as tariff impact comes into effect, starting from changes that are most reversible. That is, temporarily delisting SKUs or delaying listing new SKUs is easy to undo if we see tariff reduction or mitigation. (cont)

As a reminder, although we are US-headquartered, we manufacture our laptops in Taiwan. That means we currently face a 10% tariff importing to the US, increasing to 32% on April 9th. @frameworkcomputer well, I'm looking forward to a more generous availability in Canada and maybe even some downward pricing adjustments as your US sales volumes decline. No new tariffs on Taiwanese goods here! Hope it all works out for you, hopefully you can make up some of the lost volume here.

@frameworkcomputer I'll wait 5 years before you build a factory and hire employees. You'll have to import the parts you use to assemble the laptops, which will incur additional duties, but the reward will be a "made in the USA" label, and that's worth it! :troll:

@frameworkcomputer Welp... that sucks. I've been waiting forever to get a new laptop so I'll pay whatever anyway. I may be a minority view here but I read the paper and understand this isn't your fault so I'll eat the price increase.Save a green laptop 12 for me.

@shironeko @frameworkcomputer True, but I'm getting the cheapest laptop. I was just hoping it would be under a grand. I haven't bought a new laptop since 2017 (!!!).I actually would have gone with the 13 I think but just have to have that touchscreen and pen.

@shironeko @frameworkcomputer @stiv I assume you mean buying it in a third country and carrying it back with you?Unfortunately, this can also be problematic, I've had friends get hit with paying the duty on phones they've actually owned for a while. Mind that was Portugal, but if tariffs are as high as they're looking, I can see the US CBP cracking down on circumvention much the way EU countries have done already. Some of my EU friends travel with a second junky device, just in case.

@shironeko @frameworkcomputer @stiv this brings up one of the core issues I have with paying these tariffs at all, which is that you're just handing the trump administration cash for doing fuck all other than being annoying and ruining the economy. Also, they will take that money and use it for at best golfing and more likely the deportation without due process of individuals whose speech they disagree with.Personally, I plan on only buying used items until Trump is out of office.

@frameworkcomputer That just tells me that US customers are affected, but I don't know if you ship to non-US customers from the US (and so would be subject to US import tariffs first) or direct from somewhere else (avoiding them entirely).
