@stux if you think the way we used to treat the environment is bad, you should see the way we treated women and minorities… oh wait never mind, we still suck at all this stuff.

@clickhere @geichel @rberger @evanwolf haha you think that’s messed up? The reason the US doesn’t have universal PTO or healthcare, is partially due to union lobbying against it. They don’t want non-union members to have the same benefits, because then non-unionised workers wouldn’t need unions, or so their thinking went. Not to say big business and wealthy don’t share the blame, but people forget that unions only represent the people they represent.

@hosford42 @clickhere @geichel @rberger @evanwolf I don’t think abolishing corporate structures short term would actually do more than move the goal post of exploitation and oppression. As evident in the USSR and modern China. I’ve always liked communism in theory, unfortunately humanities practice of it leaves much to be desired. Syndicalism is a start, but we also need to move away from 19th century style agro/industrial “wealth” creation.

@tante I really love Fairphone’s intentions, they put it into practice, walking the walk. For the privacy minded the unfortunately named /e/ OS(seriously) is an option, idk if it’s available on the 5, but I can’t imagine it wouldn’t. Taking fairphone to task over a vanilla android install is performative outrage and a missed opportunity to educate. Ditching the headphone jack however leaves me completely nonplussed, so I still won’t be buying one.

@randahl @anderspuck with Germany’s track record supplying Ukraine, Taurus probably doesn’t work well anyway.

@nextcloud four, spread between work, personal and family. Also, I use the hell out of spacedeck/whiteboard, that project needs some love.

@stux worse case scenario; iOS users would be left without getting any updates to the app…

@davidrevoy well, if bigots like this are "concerned" by your work, then you're definitely doing it right. Also, so many positive comments, I'm gonna hand out some stars.

@frameworkcomputer I would definitely love to have a proper framework tablet, with wacom stylus support, booting @fedora Since I'm already here dreaming.A Framework phone with support for #linuxmobile and #GrapheneOS maybe a collaboration with @Fairphone and community supported expansion modules.

@jgoodleaf @antsyboi @GrapheneOS what bothers me about the current situation, Google could simply decide to stop making pixel phones the way they do.What we need is a consortium of smaller manufacturers that get together and support a common "LTS" phone platform. Or a mandate from a market like the EU for a secure phone(France isn't leading the way). None of that seems likely.

@jgoodleaf @antsyboi @GrapheneOS my Japan phone is an Xperia 1 VI. From a hardware perspective it's the best phone I've ever owned, and I can't begin to describe how nice it is to have a wired headphone jack again. Unfortunately, Sony is a pretty crappy steward of the software side. 2-3 years of updates is ridiculous these days. While the phone is pretty bloate free compared to other phones, there still some sketchy software that you can only remove with shizuku.

@davidrevoy @whot we need more Linux focused hardware reviews for artists. We need to show that serious artists do use Linux and that we need performant stylus and multitouch support and professional colour support.

@shironeko @frameworkcomputer @stiv I assume you mean buying it in a third country and carrying it back with you?Unfortunately, this can also be problematic, I've had friends get hit with paying the duty on phones they've actually owned for a while. Mind that was Portugal, but if tariffs are as high as they're looking, I can see the US CBP cracking down on circumvention much the way EU countries have done already. Some of my EU friends travel with a second junky device, just in case.

@shironeko @frameworkcomputer @stiv this brings up one of the core issues I have with paying these tariffs at all, which is that you're just handing the trump administration cash for doing fuck all other than being annoying and ruining the economy. Also, they will take that money and use it for at best golfing and more likely the deportation without due process of individuals whose speech they disagree with.Personally, I plan on only buying used items until Trump is out of office.

@tomjennings @aleksandrayulia @grote @GrapheneOS it mostly comes down to hardware security concerns, that platforms like pinephone simply never intended to address. I’ve read a few threads where @GrapheneOS lays out the technical issues, and I’m sure there’s a blog post if you wanted a deep dive. Suffice to say, pinephone is about fostering a maturing Linux ecosystem for mobile than a secure platform for GrapheneOS.

@DanielDNK @tomjennings @aleksandrayulia that’s one of the core goals of the pinephone, to eliminate the blobs and foster community FOSS hardware.
