I used to be strongly against the use of the SponsorBlock plugin because I thought it wasn't really nice to block baked in host-read ads. But seeing how sneakily YouTube people transition from their content into the ads, I think I'm changing my mind about it.And when I try to skip past an ad, listen for a couple of seconds, and it's not clear to me whether I'm still listening to an ad or not, I feel like never watching that person's videos or listening to their podcasts again.

@JoeRess at times podcasters will be like: we got this letter from a listener along about how to solve, x, we are going to do a shout out to our sponsor to recommend using y, because that's what we do. An example that comes to mind is: tailscaleAnd that's fair enough, i think

@rasmus91 @JoeRess it's fair when sponsor y is actually a reasonable solution to the problem.Your example, tailscale, is frequently enough a reasonable solution to the problem that I often do recommend it as a potential solution to listeners' problems.

Just start the ad with a pause and then "OK..." and then make it really obvious that you're reading the script. It's not that hard. 😂

In all seriousness, I get that advertisers want you to sneak your way into ads and blur the lines between content and advertising. I also get that not everyone is childless and has a solid previous career to go back to if things go south like me. 🤷♂️
