In some caves touched by sunlight through cracks you may see what look like stalactites and stalagmites that "grow towards the light" these are called Phytokarst Formations, they are accretion of moss, algae and limestone. The moss favors the parts of the rock formation with the best light exposure, this allows it to catch more limestone laden water.A different kind of Phytokarst Formation is created when bacteria eat away rock where light is present. https://caves.org/virtualcave/phytokarst/

@futurebird I just watched a video on lambda-calculus, so I was primed to see this and think about programming cellular automata to manufacture stone sculptures for us. As one does.
