Putting aside the bit of time it would take to update the installers, can anyone give me a reason why it shouldn't be common place for browser choice to be part of normal distro installation process. Most distros don't do much or anything in the way of browser customization and often have most browsers in the repos.

@BrodieOnLinux Maybe not a good reason, but you could make the argument for giving choice for a LOT of different apps. Have to draw the line somewhere. Some distros are identical to each other and only differ on "what the default packages are". Ubuntu with an installer choice to use KDE instead is just Kubuntu. So in that way, "the default packages" are what defines a distro more than anything else.

@BrodieOnLinux because they can’t really offer most of the browsers people use in that list?So in practice you would get a choice between a bunch of browsers you don’t want, so you can use it to figure out how to download the one you want

@BrodieOnLinux looking at arch for example. Only those in the pacman repo would be listable in an installer. Presumably other distros have similar lists.

@BrodieOnLinux I'm sure a little bit of it is the issue of line-drawing. Like it's easy to say that you should offer Firefox, Chrome, Librewolf, Chromium, Brave, Vivaldi and Opera. They're the big ones. But do you draw the line there? What about Yandex, NetSurf, Floorp, Falkon? What about the /really/ small ones? What about Edge, which is for some reason in Flathub?I have to imagine that for distro makers this is a hornets nest they just don't want to kick.
