So I'm watching a letsplay of Car Dealer Simulator, which seems to be set in America, sometime in the late-2000s to today, and you have a computer in it you can use to sell cars online. But look at the computer. That is a Sharp X68000! WHY ARE YOU BROWSING CARSALES.EGG WITH AN X68000, A JAPAN-ONLY 1980S COMPUTER?

@foone I think the real question is why are you not browsing for a new-to-you car using a 1980s microcomputer?

@foone some of them do but not that (approximate) model. the keyboard also doesn't have an ALT key as written on the post-it on the monitor.

(this model, I mean. As @neko68k pointed out, later models use 3.5". But not this model)

@foone no sweat. compacts are rare and there's not much point owning one over other models since none of the software is on 3.5" disks anyway.

@neckspike that's the thing, this would never end up in an american car dealership! all the software is in japanese! you can buy more appropriate computers for like 15$ at thrift stores

@foone @neko68k You should set up a consultancy firm for advising media properties on period accurate tech.

@foone A sim game a lot like things a “computer” that was just the monitor. Which I guess to be fair is an accurately 80s/90s mistake to make

@foone I am a little confused by your terminology here because late 2000s might mean after 2500, or after 2050. I presume you might mean between 2005 and 2020? In early 2014 I helped service a cash register based on a 1994 computer. By late 2014 it was being replaced, but old computers are EVERYWHERE in business!

@jackemled I mean, but so am I, and I don't use an X68000 regularly to buy & sell cars. I can't believe the protagonist of this random car is game is more of a nerd than me!

@foone Try harder!! You could always use a relay computer to post to fediverse with a custom build relay USB keyboard.
