@geordie @NewtonMark It's a win-win-win: they get the points or whatever, you don't have your privacy violated, and they ever so slightly devalue the dataset the company is building.

@foone @cadey Probably because certain parts of the construction go to motive. Otherwise there's not really that much difference between a pipe bomb and a badly engineered model rocket engine, fireworks, etc.Heck even in pipe bombs, clearing a tree trunk or fence post versus putting someone in the past tense on wikipedia is different only in the details.

@foone I'm not sure if this is helpful or wanted, but can you do HDMI->VGA adapter, into a GBS-8100?I haven't had terribly good luck with this (video washed out) but it's supposed to be the meta for driving arcade monitors from a PC, so I'm suspecting one of the pros might give you what you want. But I do note that like you, even though I knew what I was looking for, a search for "GBS VGA to CGA" gave me the opposite too!

@foone Have you been cursed with the knowledge that a Windows 95 PC, with two NICs and zero other software can act as a router yet? There's a registry key you can enable and it will happily forward packets between two interfaces. For some reason this bubbled to the top when I saw your post, and now it's everyone else's issue to deal with. :louise_laugh:

@mos_8502 @Yuki Also cursed: Windows has, since like 2k or possibly nt4, supported NFS, though I don't think you could not from it there probably lots of other bits you could run over it.

@foone Ooh I've been that fool multiple times, and it's bullshit that they'll learn from it, IMHO.

@foone I switched to a single 4k monitor instead of two 1440p ones just to avoid the horror show that is DisplayLink on a MBP, and yeah I feel this... Not entirely sure which is worse for my mental health.

@foone I think the real question is why are you not browsing for a new-to-you car using a 1980s microcomputer?

@foone If anyone suggests it, the Google TV (name subject to change), we have two, they're pretty shit... The saving grace is they're not bad enough for us to have replaced them, but that's about it... not exactly high praise.

@gorplop @wolf480pl U-blox's software lets you do absolute crimes with these devices, it's awesome. Like my time server is a U-blox mini PCIe in a PCEngines APU, and I don't have a windows machine to run the software that also has a card slot for it. So I run socat to forward the serial port over the network, connect via that from a Windows laptop, and I can set position hold, turn on PPS, etc.

@wolf480pl @gorplop No they have a proprietary binary protocol, I think someone's already figured it out but I only had to use it three times (when I moved house) and I never think about it any other time. The rest of the time it speaks NMEA+PPS, which suits me!

@foone @a2_4am I would probably be addicted to someone documenting the reverse engineering process in the vein of like a true crimes documentary or Unsolved Mysteries or similar

@ricci @bituur_esztreym Also it often felt about as nice to plug in as stepping on a banana barefoot (I have the same complaint about the SCART video connector, just absolutely terrible plug-in feeling)...... and some genius car manufacturers oriented the socket vertically, so if you lost the lighter or otherwise left it open, a lost coin was enough to blow a fuse 🤣

@alison Yeah I think your insider friend is wrong, as by all credible accounts Hotmail was FreeBSD on the front-end and Solaris stuff on the back-end (and I mostly only heard about FreeBSD being used).

@whitequark My plan is my IaC stuff will be mirrored on both, with runners on both. On each commit, they fight and one wins. If one is down, the other easily wins. They can't both be down, so this plan is perfect.

@ignaloidas @whitequark I do, partially because I'm scum unworthy of love, and partially because enjoying YAML upsets the right kind of people and I've given up almost all my other trolling habits let me have this...

@ignaloidas @whitequark Forgive me but isn't "one more later of abstraction to reduce the pain" how we got here in the first place? When you're in a deep hole, dig *up*. 😂

@foone I wonder if they left the JTAG fuse unpopped so you can pull the code off the MSP?
