The reason is: In 1943, the Nazis built four more gas chambers and crematoria in Auschwitz II-Birkenau concentration camp and subsequently converted the provisional facility in Auschwitz I concentration camp into a storage facility and air-raid shelter. After the war, the first crematorium was restored to its original condition.
