@wafflesies All of them.Every BSD I've inspected has contained proprietary software and/or installed proprietary software without asking, therefore all of them are nonfree."Free"BSD for example contains proprietary software without source code in the "src" branch (which you need to have installed to be able to use it);https://cgit.freebsd.org/src/tree/sys/contrib/devhttps://cgit.freebsd.org/src/tree/sys/contrib/dev/nvidia/LICENCE.nvidiahttps://cgit.freebsd.org/src/tree/sys/contrib/dev/nvidia/tegra124_xusb.bin.uuhttps://cgit.freebsd.org/src/tree/sys/contrib/dev/nvidia/tegra210_xusb.bin.uuhttps://cgit.freebsd.org/src/tree/sys/contrib/dev/otus/otus-licensehttps://cgit.freebsd.org/src/tree/sys/contrib/dev/otus/otus-init

@Suiseiseki @LoliHat GNU/Linux-libre - Doesn't run on actual Hardware :D

@vamp898 @LoliHat I'm not sure what you're on about.Posted from my GNUbooted GNU/Linux-libre hardware.I don't understand why the false claim that AMD64 magically doesn't work unless the OS installs a bunch of proprietary software is so popular.You can get the most proprietary computer possible and you can get Trisquel GNU/Linux-libre to work fine.Any intel AMD64 or i686 processor, with intel integrated graphics and wired intel LAN works completely fine on Trisquel GNU/Linux-libre (even modern intel).AMD processors work as well as intel ones.Any nvidia GPU in the 700 series and before works fine with free software (900 series works too and seemingly later cards as well (haven't tested), but no reclocking).Radeon or AMD GPUs can be forced to work at native resolution with free software - the drawback is that there is no 3D acceleration or ACPI suspend.Only certain severely defective hardware, like some Wi-Fi cards, that are a brick without a proprietary program loaded, won't work (but it's a much better idea to just plug in a decent card that works with free software that actually reconnects to the Wi-Fi network on resuming from suspend for example).

@vamp898 @LoliHat >it didn't work on one single one.Was restricted boot enabled (called "secure boot")?If restricted boot is enabled, UEFI's will refuse to boot free software.

@vamp898 @LoliHat What do you mean by "everything after booting"?You seem to have booted to a desktop and the desktop worked - what was the problem?

@Suiseiseki @LoliHat Uhm... the Desktop. I was able to boot the OS, but the Desktop didn't work.As mentioned before, LabWC crashed with "No GPU found"

@vamp898 @LoliHat Unfortunately, unlike Xorg, wayland compositors usually have a hard dependency on proprietary software.Xorg desktop environments like mate and xfce4 and i3 meanwhile work with free software.What GPUs did you try?

@vamp898 @LoliHat Also, you seem to be getting a proprietary GNU/Linux distro and installing GNU Linux-libre onto that (it's odd not to test with Trisquel GNU/Linux-libre first).GPU things aren't going to work unless you also install the right free software GPU libraries and remove proprietary GPU libraries - for example for Xorg, you need;- Nvidia - xf86-video-nouveau- ASpeed - xf86-video-ast- Intel - xf86-video-intel- AMD - xf86-video-fbdev I guess?

@Suiseiseki @LoliHat Only AMD. As far as i know, Xorg is in maintenance mode and no longer actively developed.But not just Wayland needs GPU Acceleration, all modern video players (like mpv) need it too. Even with GPU acceleration, 4K HDR starts to struggle on On-Chip GPU so it doesn't stop with the Desktop. Most of the Software in the Repository is unusable without GPU acceleration which needs proprietary firmware.

@vamp898 @LoliHat >Only AMD.There's the problem - AMD GPUs only work with free software in a framebuffer mode without 3D acceleration.wayland hard depends on 3D acceleration, meaning you can only use the superior Xorg.>no longer actively developed.It's finished.There is a fork in active development - XLibre.>all modern video players (like mpv) need it tooNo it doesn't.vo=x11profile=sw-fastWill get you video playback without 3D acceleration.>Most of the Software in the Repository is unusable without GPU acceleration which needs proprietary firmware.Why is the repository so chock full of proprietary malware?Most free software works fine whether you have a GPU or not.Nvidia cards with free peripheral software with Nouveau will run software that needs 3D acceleration.

@vamp898 @LoliHat It works - the CPU just isn't fast enough to keep up with such a high-resolution video.Yes, freedom can be inconvenient.

@Suiseiseki @LoliHat What freedom? The freedom of not having GPU Acceleration? That is no freedom.If there would be an FLOSS GPU Accelerated Firmware, that would be freedom. But simply not being able to use it and having nothing to replace it doesn't gain me any freedom. I have as much freedom with the proprietary GPU Firmware as i have without it.I do not gain anything, i just loose

@vamp898 @LoliHat >What freedom? The freedom from AMD's proprietary malware.>If there would be an FLOSS GPU Accelerated Firmware, that would be freedom.There is no firmware - it's all software.Nouveau has free peripheral software available for nvidia GPUs up to the 700 series and 3D accelerations works.3D acceleration works with free software with intel integrated.3D acceleration works with free software with ASpeed GPUs (too bad only proprietary BIOS's init ASpeed GPUs into 3D mode).

@RedTechEngineer @vamp898 @LoliHat It seems there is an attempt to play a 4K video, which won't work on an iBook G4 either.

@vamp898 @LoliHat You can still use most or all of it - you just have to use Xorg, or find a decent GPU.

@vamp898 @LoliHat Intel integrated - reclocking works perfectly.The GMA4500MHD, which is used in GNUbootable thinkpads works with 100% free software.There is also the option of faster nvidia GPUs and pretty much the fastest you can use - the Nvidia 780 Ti works with fully free software with GNUboot.If you have the SeaBIOS payload installed, it executes the proprietary Option EEPROM and you can see the GRUB display on the nvidia GPU before bootup.If you don't have the SeaBIOS payload, you don't see GRUB and Linux-libre will go init the GPU without executing the proprietary Option EEPROM and you see the boot log (for the KGPE-D16, if you have any bootup issues, you can swap to the ASpeed GPU and see GRUB - but you won't).The reclocking is quite good - supertuxkart can hit 120fps at times - although the reclocking is not yet perfect - minetest runs rather slow and firefox-based browsers are bugged (but otherwise I don't seem to have any issues).It appears that older nvidia GPUs with limited reclocking work almost perfectly.

@Suiseiseki @LoliHat I would have to buy a new PC for that. I will live with the AMD Malware then.

@vamp898 @LoliHat Why would a new GPU need a new PC?
