@mjg59 It connects to the internet and does calls and SMS's.You can easily add a cellular modem for remote usage, if you want to be spied on, but imagine going outside.

@mjg59 How is doing calls and SMS's in freedom, no matter what it takes, not serious?

@lanodan @volpeon @SuperDicq >grub-install can literally fail to fully install and not report an error.GRUB almost always installs and on defective hardware, I have always been able to tell when grub hasn't been able to install - skill issue.>grub-mkconfig similarly can create config files that it then cannot parse,I have never run into that problem.

@HatkeshiatorTND @mjg59 Whatever GNUbooted ThinkPad - the X200 and X200 Tablet are nice and small. To flash an X200, you just take the keyboard and wristpad off, attache a SOIC-16 clip and use a RP2040 to flash. To flash an X200t, you need to take the whole thing apart and either solder 8 wires to the WSON-8 chip, or desolder the WSON-8 chip (very difficult as the large thermal pad conducts all the heat to the rest of the board) and replace it with a SOIC-8 chip. You need a server for asterisk and a SIP trunk account. If a US or Candan number will do, this slop will work; https://jmp.chat/ (you should be able to use it with a computer with work).

@HatkeshiatorTND @mjg59 *Whatever GNUbootable ThinkPad.You can just but them pre-GNUbooted, but those tend to be expensive. You can find them unflashed for nothing to a few hundred (more than 150 USD for a X200 is too much tbh).

@iron_bug @oigreslima @lxo Governments are trying their best to make it illegal to not have a tracking device. The UK is planning on requiring either an Android or iOS demon rectangle to be able to work or accept unemployment payments in the future. But even then, just try doing many things without a phone number (just having access to a phone number without a demon rectangle takes a lot of skill and a special position)

@SuperDicq @lanodan @phnt @lolitechengineer Debian includes a bunch of proprietary software that is not in fact needed to get it running on an absolutely proprietary computer.

@phnt @shinyoukai @lolitechengineer @SuperDicq @lanodan GNU is the only OS that actually gives the user the choice of doing what they want to do.Not attacking the user with proprietary software rather allows for choice (as the user can choose to have freedom by choosing not to throw it away), rather than taking away choices.Every single BSD is proprietary software, thus there is no choice to have freedom - as you'll never have it.

@phnt GNU is an elaborate joke made by RMS, with two jokes in just the name. It's such an ultimate joke is that it's the best OS - no other OS's come close and aren't even the slightest bit funny. You can tell that the joke is working, due due to all the coping and seething about superior GNU software and the inane claims about "vendor lock-in", when the complete corresponding source code is there all there and how every last bit can be literally copy-pasted into any alternative implementation.

@phnt Yes, Emacs is only one of the OS's that GNU provides - which happens to also have a text editor.
