I'm considering blocking any posts containing the words "LLM" or "AI". I've been informally surveying the ones that pass by me and I've realized that in the last few months, *not one* has imparted to me any knowledge, trait, tidbit even, I didn't already know or at least read about; there's no humor or advantage in any of them. There's a general sense that LLM technologies have some narrow applications towards solving some problems but even here, no real news. And other than that narrow applicability we generally know that they're generally applied as scams of varying and manifold sorts. But enumerating them is just touching wounds; I'm not really into that. Maybe I need an AI that filters out "posts to which wound-touching as a metaphor apply". But of course it would be too expensive. That's the best AI joke I can come up with.

@tomjennings A strange problem I've had is that I often search Google Images for anime reaction images, and that's super AI-stuffed now, so I always search with "anime -ai". But then I have an awareness this is messing me up in a weird way, because "Ai" is a completely normal name for a Japanese woman to have, so I'm probably blocking any images that happen to portray a character named Ai—

@drscriptt I'm blocking all posts that contain two proper names you can guess. I guess I'm assuming the fedi filters are on whole words. LLM is sufficiently unique. AI ... Well it's more or less scam only, anyone doing machine learning and other legitimate technologies will probably themselves not just call their shit "AI".

I haven't done this... I don't want to (effectively) block posts from Timnit Gehbru and other sensible folks. Otherwise no need almost any of it.

@tomjennings We need programmable rules for blocks.

@tomjennings Is it time for me to go see if anyone's hooked up Gnus to ActivityPub? Scorefiles would be a winning move.

@tomjennings @vga256 Filters, lists, and the ability to selectively mute some user's boost are a life-saver here, and allow me to curate my feed. Most(not all) of my filters are set to "hide with a warning" rather than "hide completely".So, with a topic such as AI, which are ~99% useless, to me, I hide. For folks like Timnet, Emily Bender, and Simon Willison(sp?) who I find useful & informative on the subject, I have created a separate list for them and browse once or twice a month. YMMV.
