I reckon I'll move services first then think about hardware. my phone and laptop I can probably squeeze another year out of, so that will give me time to see how plausible a migration to linux and ... graphene os(?) would be

@morebento It's easier than you think to install and use.https://www.youtube.com/@sideofburritos/videos has some good videos on GrapheneOS from the past year.If you can afford to buy one of the recommended devices, you might as well try it sooner rather than later. You can use most of the same apps and services to start with sandboxed Google Play for very broad app compatibility. If it doesn't start as your primary device, you can play around with different approaches like putting that in a work profile, etc.

@morebento You don't have to immediately switch to a bunch of new apps and services. Moving from iOS to GrapheneOS is inherently harder than moving from Android, particularly a modern Android OS without massive changes from AOSP like the stock Pixel OS. Still, many apps aren't that different from Android and iOS. There aren't really many new UI paradigms, patterns, etc. to learn. You'll have a lot of choices about how to do things like where to get apps and there isn't 1 right answer.

I may / may not do it as iOS and apple seem to be fairly safe bets at this point but keeping it open
