"This is all fine and good....I mean, white folks jumping on board an idea that Black folks had is not new. But here’s the thing, and I’ve said this before, but it needs to be underlined, highlighted and put in bold: The boycott cannot just be one day. Not if anyone wants it to work."https://www.theroot.com/the-feb-28-economic-boycott-is-not-the-move-heres-wh-1851766644

@lillyfinch One week boycotts, of one store at a time, each scheduled with a one week break for normal shopping?Sorry, no, but if one can stock up in advance knowing full well that one can make another run to the same store a week later, or else do the same shopping at a store one stayed away from two weeks prior, that's not gonna make an impact, and the retailers know it.It's a bunch of day planner management, nothing more. Penciling a series of boycott into one's calendar is more of the same pattern of RSVP protest by appointment.Meanwhile, in the Republic of Georgia, they've been protesting now for over ninety consecutive days. From the Root:"Not only were the participants of that boycott able to get people to change their patterns and embrace discomfort to cause change, but they were also able to get protesters who walk miles daily to accomplish their goal. That’s significant. That dedication and tenacity is what made the city of Montgomery bend to their will."

@beadsland @lillyfinch When retail boycotts reach the level of people reminding strangers not to go into the McDonald's in a friendly way as I've seen a few times in NYC recently they are getting closer to what might start to matter. "Didn't you hear, we ain't shopping there."

The same kind of dedication will be needed if the people behind this week’s protest want to be successful…but I have doubts."https://www.theroot.com/the-feb-28-economic-boycott-is-not-the-move-heres-wh-1851766644
