Again, #bluesky can censor. They have a centralized relay that can shut down anything. Taking VC money means maximizing profit, which will mean the largest possible network with content control and the fewest possible moderators. However this happened, more of it is inevitable. But not on fedi. Like the web, you'd just need one of thousands of servers to host it. If you value free expression, you need to support real decentralization, #ActivityPub and the #SocialWeb.https://www.404media.co/bluesky-deletes-ai-protest-video-of-trump-sucking-musks-toes-calls-it-non-consensual-explicit-material/

@wjmaggos But are they telling us about their fealty or their fetishes? I'm somewhat mixed feels about this.On the one hand, censorship of art that makes braying asses who scream about liberals not having a sense of humor, livid. On the other, the rules should be applied evenly. Revenge porn isn't cool. If they treat all videos of this nature that way, fine. If this is an exception, not fine.I'm not on #bluesky either way. Exploit me once shame on you. Exploit me twice, shame on me.

@obscurestar I think there was a law re AI video passed in California, but it has an exception for clearly fake, humorous stuff about public officials. I think this would be covered under that, even if it wasn't clearly reporting, not pushing it. Either way, it's bad centralized infrastructure if the whole network is dictated by the laws of one HQ. And now we have an administration who is willing to put the pressure on anyone to comply in advance (or even in defiance) of legal precedent.

@WeirdWriter they can and I think they do too much of that. but here, if there is a legal question, we could someday have something like an EFF instance dedicated just to hosting anything where others don't have the money or staff to take on lawsuits.

@wjmaggos @atomicpoet The Fediverse is my home. And, I am invested in it in many ways.BUT — I think what is (and isn't) factually accurate matters — I think what is (and isn't) true matters.Although this was less true months ago — alternative Bluesky relays, AppView, and front-end seem to have started coming online.Bluesky seems like it is beginning to decentralize. It hasn't reached the Fediverse's level of decentralization yet, but — it looks like it is starting to....

Update: After this article was published, Bluesky restored Kabas' post and told 404 Media the following: "This was a case of our moderators applying the policy for non-consensual AI content strictly. After re-evaluating the newsworthy context, the moderation team is reinstating those posts."Great. But this story matters cause it proves there's content control of the entire network at the heart of the #ATproto model. Getting away from having to trust any company is why decentralization matters.
