I think I've been doing too much programming recently. I was writing a story about a witch and a quest to rescue a princess from a dragon, and I looked up the grammar for how write actions happening mid-sentence like I was checking the documentation of the programming language I was using to verify the syntax

like "I can't remember, does lua use <> or ~= for not-equal? I'll check" but instead it's "Hey google —" she said, as the computer screen lit up "— how do I write something happening mid-sentence?"

it's just like the other ones, except instead of instructing a computer to do something, it makes a human feel something.

@foone It's got a lot more logical consistency, aside from the whitespace thing.

@foone Correctly written "Hey google," she said, as the computer screen lit up. "How do I write something happening mid-sentence?" No need for double-dashes when mixing narration with speech. However, it's allowed, and in that case the double-dash should be outside the quotes as the pause is not something being spoken.Ugh, it's a compulsion. Forgive me.
