Trump signs executive order saying all independent agencies are directed by him, must be loyal to him, all relevant laws affecting them are interpreted by him, and have spies embedded in them which report to him https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/02/ensuring-accountability-for-all-agencies/Folks, here it is. This is totalitarianism. US friends, if you're looking for your signal of whether or not you should start making other plans, this is the one.

@cwebber Reading through this executive order, it's clear that Elon and Don either:a) Do not intend for a Democrat to even hold the presidency again, or at the very leastb) Have executed this power grab without considering the possibility of a Democrat in the White House in the future.I say this, because can you seriously imagine that the Republicans would've been happy with an EO giving this much power to Obama or Biden?

@ajsadauskas @cwebber other possibilities:C. they expect that a democrat, given this power, would not do anything with itD. they expect that the moment a democrat tries to use this power, a court will suddenly find a reason it is unconstitutional nowA think your (A) and (B) is probably what is in their heads. But my observations of the Biden administration seem to suggest (C) and (D) are both plausible on the facts.
