@stux I've been reading through (extremely slowly, author drops snippets of text from other languages into the prose like he assumes the reader knows ten) Imagined Communities by Benedict Anderson, and the thesis is pretty interesting: he tracks the development of nationalism as, more or less, the new story people tell themselves about who they are and why they're there... With a major focus on how it is a story. It's a made-up idea that convinces someone in North Carolina that their fate is inextricably intertwined to the fate of someone in Utah, even if they never meet, even if their friends never meet, even if they're never directly aware of each other's existence.It's past time we got to the story of "That, but everyone." Because we live in a world where my decision to drive to work everyday might kill someone in India next year.

@stux I have however to say that having national countries and nationalities (on top of having flags and anthems) are necessary concepts around which we can create cohesive society. (words of a person, who takes national symbols lightly)Nationalism and patriotism are neither bad or good, it is necessary but it can misbehave. A little bit like bacteria, there a lot of harmful, but we can't live without probiotics.p.s. I can understand your frustration though.
