I have 12 TB of storage on physical platters still currently plugged in, and about another 34 TB on disks on my bookshelf that I plug in only when I need to access that data (rarely). Can't fit all of that onto an NVMe.

i have moved physical disks to external USB storageUSB is now as fast as SATA anywaythose drives have limited life span if they are always spinning and doing something they probably will die so all my internal drives are NVMEand my external USB drives are 50/50 half of them SSD and half rotationalrotational is good for movies or anything you never plan to use SSD good for software as you can install or run it from there without slowing down

why do you need a reliable external drive ? these are for long term backup and should be redundant.
